The Boys
The Girls
Our dogs are bought up in the house. They are used to everyday comings and goings, from the hoover, TV and also the postman!!
Diet -
We feed all our dogs a combination of foods. We find that this helps keep them interested and also provides them with all the neccessary vitamins, minerals and quantity of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
We are firm believers in giving our dogs RMB (raw meaty bones) as well as tripe, chicken wings, raw red meat and certain vegetables. These are given with a small amount of complete food which is wheat and gluten free and comprises of no less than 26% human grade consumption meat.
By feeding our dogs raw meat, and chicken wings, this not only helps keep their teeth and gums clean and healthy, but also helps strengthen their jaw muscles.
Exercise -
We make sure that our dogs have plenty of free running. We believe that this helps contribute to good mucle tone, blood circulation and helps strengthen all the joints. Being a large muscular dog, that should be able to work all day, our rottweilers run through fields, swim in the river, and generally 'work out'.
Our dogs are off lead from day one, however exercise is minimal to begin with. You should not put any undue pressure on or over exercise your puppy. Too much can put a big risk over your pup having bad hips in later life. But building up exercise wil help to strengthen the muscles and ligaments.
Training -
All our dogs are socialised from day one. We believe that socialisation is the most important thing you can do for your dog. Our pups are taken everywhere, from the pub to being taken into the town. We let our dogs play with other dogs in the park (under control) and also take them to puppy socialisation parties!! Which are great fun for both of us.
When they have settled in with the normal daily life, we start with introducing basic commands, sit, come and wait. When you have a large dog, you must have some level of control.
They are taken to training classes each week, so as well as learning to do different exercises, they are continually being socialised.
We do not believe in using harsh methods to train our dogs to become 'model citizens'. Our training is more reward based. However now and then when they hit the 'teenage' years, we do have to enforce the training that we do with them and make sure that they do what is asked. But that's teenagers for you.
Training is continual, as rottweilers also have a brain, so we do try to exercise their minds as well as their bodies and get them thinking for themselves. Our dogs love to track, especially when their favourite toy or tennis ball is at the end of the track!!
